The Red Zone

THE RED ZONE

On September 12, 2018, we became a light of Hope at Fairleigh Dickinson University - Florham Campus alongside with students, faculty, staff, Morris CARES, and CAPS to spread awareness on the topic of campus sexual assault. As an organization that has dedicated itself to combating and championing for domestic violence awareness and awareness of violence against women, we felt it was imperative for our college campus to be educated on such an important topic. A topic that not only impacts the lives of women but all genders within a college campus.

The Red Zone was our first launch to an annual event that we will be hosting every fall semester as part of our Week of Serving and Educating. The Red Zone is a period of six weeks that experts believe is the most dangerous time for campus sexual assault. More than 50 percent of campus sexual assaults occur between August and November, according to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN).

As an educational initiative, we teamed up with Morris CARES Sexual Assault Program and the Counseling Services at FDU to have an event filled with speakers, information, and resources.

CAPS: 973-443-8504

Morris CARES: 973-971-4633

Jersey Battered Women's Services: 973-267-4763

Sexual Assault Program Hotline: 973-829-0587

On this night, we became the light with our paper bag lanterns to hold true the message of the #MeToo movement and in solidarity as we continue to educate others on the issue of campus sexual assault.

Thank you to everyone who became a light of Hope with our Collective. A special thank you to the speakers from Morris CARES and the support from FDU administration and CAPS. Thank you for bringing our vision to life.

We cannot wait to see you next year as we continue to advocate and spread our mission, Serving and Educating Through Our Diversity. A diversity rooted...

in the strength of our voices,

our communities,

and our empowerment.
